Pressure sensors are sensors that can detect the applied pressure of gases and liquids. the result of the measurement is then converted into electrical signals that reflect the amount of pressure that has been applied. Methods for Achieving Sensor’s Mechanical Displacement:
The mechanical displacement that takes place within the sensor is then converted into an electrical output signal that can be achieved through five different methods.
Pressure Sensors, Transducers-Industrial
Resistive
These are the sensors that utilize the change in electrical resistance ofa strain gauge that is connected to the diaphragm.
Capacitive
These are very sensitive and are capable to measure low pressure under 10 bars while still being able to withstand large loads.
Piezoelectric
Such sensors are known as substances called Quartz that are used to create a charge on the surface when you apply pressure. Piezoelectric pressure sensors are mainly used to measure quickly changing pressures.
Optical
These sensors utilize interferometry to measure the change occurring in optical fiber. They are not disturbed by electromagnetic interference and can be utilized in medical or noisy environments.
Types of Pressure Sensors
There are various characteristics that can be used to identify the type and application of a sensor including the operating temperature range, what pressure range they measure or the pressure type they measure
Absolute Sensors
These are the sensors that measure the pressure related to the perfect vacuum, also known as the zero-reference point.
Gauge Pressure Sensors
They are sometimes known as relative pressure sensors that are used to measure atmospheric pressure.
Differential Pressure Sensors
These pressure sensors are used to measure the differences between two differential pressures which you can connect to either side of the sensor. They are also to effectively measure fluid levels, flow rates, and pressure drops.

Types of Transducers

Input transducer

For example, the microphones that we use take the sound waves and convert them into electrical energy which is then transferred through wires to the amplifier.
Output Transducer
An output transducer is also known as an actuator, and it performs in the opposite way of the input transducer. They take those electrical signals and then convert them into another form of energy. For example, the conversion of electricity to light in a lamp or a motor converting electricity into motion.
